Arif Khan in Beijing

 Arif is also the first Indian skier who has qualified for the slalom and giant slalom events in the Beijing Winter Olympics. Arif finished 53rd in the giant slalom event, which was held today in the Beijing, Chinese capital which received heavy snowfall on Sunday, revealed the media briefing reports from  Beijing.    

It was the individual effort of Arif  who qualified for the Beijing winter Olympics. USA, Canada, UK and others including India have announced the diplomatic boycott of Olympics.  They announced boycott on the ground of human rights violations by Chinese Communist regime,  

Diplomatic boycott means “Indian envoy including those from other countries,   will not participate in the opening and closing ceremony” of the  Olympics while the athletes are participating . India had announced diplomatic boycott after China made one of its injured soldier of Galwan Indo-China clash as a torchbearer of the games that is against spirit of Olympics”.

On the other hand, Chinese official media has been highlighting Indian athlete Khan prominently featuring him as “a lone skier representing 1.3 billion people”.

Aif said he sought to change the winter sports in India, which is home to Himalaya.  “I want to promote winter games in India. I learnt skiing from my father in my childhood in 1994, who himself also is a skier and runs his ski shop in Kashmir town”, Khan asserts.  Khan will participate in the slalom event in the second week of the winter Olympics.
