In Shimla, the capital of Himachal Pradesh former Deputy Mayor Tikendar Singh Panwar also hold a climate fast in support of the melting glaciers of the Himalaya and in support of Wangchuk’s fast today in front of the statue of Mahatma Gandhi on The Ridge.
Sonam Wangchuk had water given by the veteran of Ladakh in presence of hundreds of his supporters who also observed fast in solidarity with the melting glaciers and demand for the statehood for Ladakh under the Sixth Schedule.

All his supporters who hold fast today later shouted slogan of Bharat Mata Ki Jai, Bharat Mata Ki Jai", before Wangchuk ended his fast.

Wangchuk said the protection of glaciers and rivers in Ladakh and rest of Himalayan region is of supreme importance as entire North India depends on them for water.
He said Ladakh received a budget of Rs 6000 crore, but the sad part is that only 500 crore is being utilised by the Ladakh hill development council.
The rest of it is in hands of single UT Ladakh – LG. About 75 per cent gets lapsed as it not being utilised for protection and conservation of Ladakh, he claimed.
He said if the demands of Ladakh people are not met, how would observe 10 days fast in near future in support of their demands.
