Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu stated that the new SOPs would lead to increased efficiency among forest officers and substantial benefits, including revenue boost and reduced transportation costs.

The rollout will occur in phases, initially covering seven Forest Ranges across five divisions in four circles starting September 1, 2023. Subsequent phases will extend these SOPs to 70 forest ranges in six circles, with full implementation set for July 1, 2024.

The SOPs outline a precise schedule for disposing of less than 25 salvage trees. Collaborative efforts between forest guards and Forest Corporation staff will mark the trees, facilitate formalities, and ensure timely processing. A dedicated web portal will be developed for data input and assessment.

The new measures are poised to revolutionize salvage tree handling, prevent financial losses, and boost revenue generation.
