Shimla/Solan, October 28:
In a major breakthrough against the narcotics trade, a 16-member team of the Solan Police has seized properties worth ₹6.34 crore belonging to notorious drug peddler Dhani Ram alias Gallu, who was finally caught after evading the police for nearly one and a half years.

Gallu, who had been running a wide drug network across Solan, Arki, Kunihar, Darlaghat, Bilaspur and Shimla, was arrested on September 18 with 1.624 kg of opium and 1.622 kg of charas from his house in Kunihar.

SP Solan Gaurav Singh told media  the police received a tip-off that the accused had stored a large quantity of narcotics in his home to supply during the Arki Sair Mela, when police were busy with fair duties.

Acting swiftly, a 16-member team raided his residence, eatery and homestay — uncovering hidden caches of contraband.

Investigations revealed that Gallu had ingeniously concealed the drugs in secret compartments inside a kitchen cupboard and even under a sofa covered with a religious photo frame to avoid suspicion.

Over the years, he had amassed massive wealth through his illegal trade — including luxurious five-storey houses, restaurants, homestays, gold ornaments, tippers, and multiple vehicles, besides hefty cash deposits in several bank accounts.

Police officials said Gallu, who had no legitimate source of income, had been living lavishly while peddling drugs across multiple districts. His illegal properties — valued at over ₹6.34 crore — have now been seized.

The Himachal Police have patted their own back for the successful operation, calling it a “major strike against the drug mafia” that had enjoyed a long rope in the region.
