CHAMBA: Two youths have been missing for the last two days after they reportedly ventured into the dense forests near Bharmani Mata above Sachui Panchayat in the Bharmour subdivision, an area that has received over three feet of fresh snowfall, severely hampering search operations.
Confirming the incident, BJP Bharmour MLA Dr Janak Raj said, “Information has been received that two youths went into the forests above Bharmani Mata in Sachui Panchayat.
Due to sudden deterioration in weather and heavy snowfall, they got stranded in the jungle. As soon as the matter came to light, local people and mountaineer rescue teams were rushed to the spot.”
He added that rescue efforts have been underway for the past two days but extreme weather conditions are posing serious challenges.
“Continuous snowfall, poor visibility and deep snow have made the search operation very difficult. Despite sustained efforts, there has been no information about the missing youths so far,” Dr Janak Raj said.
Local residents, along with trained rescue volunteers, continue to assist the teams on the ground.
Authorities have urged people to avoid venturing into high-altitude forest areas during adverse weather, as the Bharmour region continues to remain under the grip of severe winter conditions.
