Shimla: Two police personnel lost their lives in a tragic road accident near Khalini Road at Taland in Shimla city after their Alto car collided head-on with a tanker.

The deceased have been identified as Head Constable Praveen Mehta and Constable Hemant Kumar.

Both were posted at the Police Lines in Kathu and were travelling in the Alto at the time of the incident.

The impact of the collision was severe, leaving the vehicle extensively damaged. Preliminary information suggests that the tanker was allegedly travelling at high speed.

Police have registered an FIR and taken the tanker driver into custody for questioning. The bodies of the deceased were sent to IGMC Shimla for post-mortem examination.

The accident also brought traffic in the area to a standstill, resulting in significant congestion.

Police have stated that an investigation is underway to ascertain the exact circumstances and cause of the collision.
