SHANTHA/CHOPAL, May 31: Deot Panchayat witnessed a decisive verdict in the Panchayati Raj elections as Rekha Kumari stormed to victory in the Pradhan election with one of the biggest winning margins, while Butaik clinched the post of Up-Pradhan after a closely watched four-cornered contest.
The results, declared late on Saturday night after completion of counting, reflected the voters' preference for experience, accessibility and personal rapport over factional politics.
Rekha Kumari secured an impressive 824 votes, leaving her nearest rival Ranjita far behind as She got 497 votes. Rekha was declared winner by a handsome margin of 327 votes.
Local residents attributed her success to her grassroots connect and popularity among women voters. Throughout the campaign, Rekha Kumari maintained close contact with villagers.
The election also saw intense political maneuvering by rival groups. The Guttu group attempted to consolidate support through an alliance with Muslim voters and managed to plant candidates to corners votes from rival candidates in ward members.
The contest for the post of Up-Pradhan proved far more competitive. In a field of four candidates, Butaik emerged victorious with 518 votes, defeating his nearest rival Rakesh Kumar Sharma, who secured 363 votes, by a handsome margin of 155 votes.
The other candidates in the fray, Devdut and Dinesh Kumar, secured 273 and 158 votes respectively.
The ward member elections also generated considerable interest among villagers.
In Shantha Ward, Aarif Mohammed secured 139 votes and defeated Raj Chauhan, who polled 113 votes, by 26 votes.
In Kharu Ward, Shruti emerged victorious with 96 votes, defeating Sarita Kumari, who secured 81 votes, by a margin of 15 votes.
In Bateuti Ward, Rama Devi won comfortably with 205 votes, defeating Seema Devi, who polled 130 votes, by a handsome margin of 75 votes.
The closest battle of the panchayat was witnessed in Kumra Ward, where Shan Mohammed narrowly defeated Amir Khan. Shan Mohammed secured 196 votes against Amir Khan's 191 votes, winning by a razor-thin margin of five votes.
The polling and counting process remained peaceful throughout the panchayat.
Despite intense electoral competition, the atmosphere remained cordial, reflecting the spirit of democracy and brotherhood that characterizes the region.
