Manimahesh Yatra Rescue Ops Suspended
BHARMAUR: Rescue teams battling hostile weather in the high reaches of Manimahesh had to call off operations after spotting three bodies above Hanuman Shila on August 31.
Two of the deceased were identified from an Aadhaar card linked to Shri Ganganagar in Rajasthan, while the third remains unidentified.
The SDRF team reported back to Harsar base at 11:26 am, unable to retrieve the bodies due to heavy rain, snowfall, and dangerous terrain. Operations will resume once the weather clears.
Earlier, on August 29, the SDRF combed the stretch from Kugti to Dal Lake and rescued eight pilgrims. Panic over trekkers near Lam Dal (Aug 27–28) also eased after locals helped 10–12 stranded devotees descend safely. SDRF later verified no one was left behind.
This year’s yatra has been marred by landslides, snow, and rain, forcing authorities to suspend the sacred pilgrimage until further notice.
