In the capital city, the toy train has chugged its way uphill on the snowy Kalka-Shimla heritage track, so is case with the stream of vehicles now moving on the Chandigarh-Shimla and Chandigarh-Manali national highways after the highways were cleared of the snow by PWD and NHAI today after sun shine over the snowclad on Saturday.
PWD engineers said city roads upto Dhalli were restored for traffic. But the Shimla-Kufri-Fagu-Narkanda-Rampur National Highway was restored by only few 4x4 and chained vehicles were allowed to ply as the road has turned skiddy due to the ice layer on the road surface.
DC Shimla who monitored the restoration work till Narkanda said they expect the highway will be restored by tomorrow. The JCBs and snow clearing machineries were on the job on the Kufri-Narkanda-Rampur highway and Theog-Kharapathar-Rohru, Deha- Khidki -Chopal state highway but the heavy snowfall has delayed the restoration work.
Following roads are currently blocked/partially open due to ongoing heavy snowfall.
