DHARAMSHALA:BJP legislators, led by opposition leader Jai Ram Thakur, confronted the state assembly, reminding the Sukhwindar Singh-led government of its unfulfilled guarantees.
The BJP caucus, dissatisfied with the Congress's failure to deliver on the 10 guarantees made during the last state elections, seized the moment by selling cow's milk at Rs. 80 per kilo and buffalo's milk at Rs. 100 per kilo within the assembly premises.
Thakur, rallying his party members, declared that they won't let the government escape its electoral commitments, nor will they allow the people of the state to be forgotten.
Accusing Chief Minister Sukhwindar Singh and top Congress leaders of reneging on their assurances, Thakur stated that the guarantees, including the purchase of cow dung at Rs. 2 per kilo from farmers, remained unfulfilled for over a year.
The BJP's protest was not merely symbolic; it underscored the party's commitment to holding the ruling Congress accountable for what they deemed a betrayal of the farming community.
With slogans echoing promises unkept, the opposition legislators, armed with cow dung, staged a demonstration in the vicinity of the legislative assembly in Dharamshala yesterday.
The opposition's stance remains firm: the deception faced by the farmers under the Congress regime will not be tolerated.
The political battleground in Himachal Pradesh is intensifying as the BJP continues to wield the unfulfilled guarantees as a powerful weapon against the ruling governmentqueering pitch for 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
