New Delhi: In response to a security breach in Parliament, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) initiated an enquiry following a request from the Lok Sabha Secretariat.
An Enquiry Committee, led by Anish Dayal Singh, DG, CRPF, has been established, comprising members from various security agencies and experts.
The Congress party expressed dissatisfaction, halting proceedings to protest the suspension of MPs disrupting the debate on the security breach and the Home Minister's statement.
They presented four demands, including PM accountability, Home Minister resignation, a thorough discussion on Parliament and national security, and strict action against BJP MP Pratap Simha for facilitating intruders.
The Congress President, Mallikarjun Kharge, criticized the suspension of 15 MPs, framing it as a threat to democracy. He questioned the alleged "crime" of seeking the Home Minister's statement and discussing a critical security breach, calling it reminiscent of a dictatorial approach.
Kharge suggested restricting MPs from issuing visitor passes directly, advocating for background checks by CRPF or Delhi police.
The Enquiry Committee, tasked with investigating the security breach, will identify lapses and propose corrective actions, submitting its recommendations promptly.
The intrusion came on the day the nation paid tributes to the Parliament terror attack on the same day, unleashing a political drama, underscoring tensions over the handling of security issues within the hallowed halls of democracy.
