Uttarakhand Society Honours Shimla-Based Hindi Writer SR Harnot
Dehradun Aug 11 – Noted Hindi litterateur and cultural activist S.R. Harnot from Himachal Pradesh will receive the Narendra Singh Negi Highest Culture Award of Uttarakhand Lok Samaj, carrying a cash prize of ₹2.51 lakh and a citation.
The award, instituted last year in memory of legendary folk singer Narendra Singh Negi, is given annually to individuals for outstanding contributions in language, literature, culture, and social concerns of Himalayan states. It was first presented to Negi himself in 2024.
Organising committee member Ganesh Khugshal Gani said the award ceremony, scheduled for August 12 on Negi’s birth anniversary, has been postponed to September due to the Dharali natural disaster.
Harnot, president of the Himalaya Literature Culture and Environment Forum, has over 20 published books, with his works taught in universities across India. Research on his writings includes 22 MPhil and 8 PhD theses completed, with 12 more underway.
His stories have been translated into multiple Indian and foreign languages, staged as plays, adapted into short films, and featured in over 60 universities’ research worldwide.
“He is a multi-dimensional personality whose literary, cultural, and environmental work makes him a true Himalayan voice,” Gani said.
