Shimla, July 28: Persistent monsoon rains continued to disrupt normal life across Himachal Pradesh on Tuesday, with 179 roads remaining blocked, 62 electricity distribution transformers (DTRs) disrupted, and 59 drinking water supply schemes affected across the state by 6:00 pm, according to the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC).
The latest evening report shows an improvement from the morning assessment, when 230 roads, 293 DTRs and 93 water supply schemes were affected. However, compared with Monday evening, the overall disruption remains significantly higher, reflecting the widespread impact of intermittent heavy rainfall.
Among the districts, Mandi remained the worst affected, with 58 roads blocked, primarily in Seraj and Thalout divisions, along with 16 disrupted power transformers. Kullu reported 42 blocked roads, mostly in Banjar and Nirmand subdivisions, while Chamba accounted for 30 road closures and the highest number of 41 disrupted DTRs, indicating extensive damage to the power distribution network.
In Sirmaur, 26 roads were blocked across Nahan, Paonta Sahib, Rajgarh, Shillai and Sangrah, while an equal number of drinking water schemes remained affected. Shimla district reported 17 blocked roads, mainly in Rampur and Chopal, besides five disrupted transformers and three drinking water schemes affected.
Road connectivity also remained affected in Lahaul and Spiti (3 roads), Kangra (2 roads) and Una (1 road). No road blockages were reported from Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Kinnaur and Solan by the evening. Importantly, no National Highway was reported blocked anywhere in the state, ensuring uninterrupted movement on major arterial routes.
The SEOC said restoration work is underway, with field teams engaged in clearing roads, restoring electricity and repairing damaged water supply infrastructure. Authorities have advised residents and commuters to remain cautious, particularly in vulnerable hill areas where fresh landslides and road blockages may occur if rainfall continues.
