Shimla: Despite witnessing several cloudburst incidents during the ongoing southwest monsoon, Himachal Pradesh has not recorded a single death directly attributed to cloudbursts between June 30 and July 28, 2026, according to the latest official disaster report. However, the overall monsoon death toll has climbed to 15, with landslides accounting for 14 fatalities and one person losing life in a flash flood.
The data highlights that while cloudbursts have caused widespread damage to roads, bridges, agricultural land and public infrastructure in different parts of the state, they have so far not resulted in any officially recorded fatalities. Instead, landslides remain the biggest killer during this monsoon season, underscoring the growing threat posed by unstable hill slopes after prolonged rainfall.
The report shows that Lahaul and Spiti recorded the highest number of monsoon-related deaths with 13 fatalities due to landslides, while Chamba reported one landslide death. Kangra accounted for the lone fatality in a flash flood.
With the monsoon expected to remain active over the coming days, disaster management authorities have urged residents and tourists to avoid landslide-prone stretches, vulnerable hill slopes and overflowing streams as the risk of fresh rain-induced disasters remains high.
