Shimla/Chamba: In a tragic road accident, five members of the same family lost their lives after their car plunged into a deep gorge near Lahad on the Bharmour–Pathankot National Highway in Himachal Pradesh's Chamba district late Monday night.
According to initial reports, the family was returning home after getting treatment for their three-month-old baby girl at PGI Chandigarh when their Alto car reportedly went out of control and fell into the gorge.
The impact of the crash was devastating, leaving all five occupants dead at the scene. Local residents alerted the authorities, following which police and rescue teams rushed to the spot and launched an operation to retrieve the victims from the gorge.
The exact cause of the accident is yet to be established. Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation to determine whether speeding, poor visibility, or mechanical failure led to the fatal crash.
