Aspire Coaching Under Fire: Councillor Flags Smoking, Loud Music and Flouting of DC Orders

SHIMLA: Aspire Coaching Institute, Sector-5, New Shimla, has landed in the eye of a storm after Ward No. 30 councillor Ram Rattan Verma filed a formal complaint with the Senior Superintendent of Police, accusing the institute and its faculty of openly violating the law.

In his complaint, Verma alleged that on September 5, around 7:30 PM, he caught a faculty member of Aspire red-handed smoking in the public parking area—a prohibited zone under the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA), 2003.

When confronted, the teacher allegedly misbehaved and fled the scene after Verma tried to take his photograph as evidence.

“This is not the first such case. Aspire teachers have been repeatedly found smoking in the parking premises, which not only violates the law but also sets a shameful example for students. What kind of education are they providing if their own faculty is caught smoking in public?” Verma fumed.

The councillor further charged Aspire with defying the Deputy Commissioner’s closure orders, keeping the institute open and disturbing residents with loud DJ music the very same evening.

“It has become a nuisance for the entire locality and a blatant mockery of law. Authorities must step in and act,” Verma demanded.

He has sought strict legal action against the concerned teacher, directions to the management to curb such incidents, enforcement of “No Smoking” signage, and an investigation into how the institute continues to operate like coaching shop  in violation of official orders.

With the complaint now formally lodged, pressure is mounting on the administration to crack down on Aspire for its repeated lawlessness.

Residents  support councillor,  demanding that all the coaching centres should be brought under the preview of HP Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Commission. They should be  bridled and  government get revenue as they are flourishing by charging hefty fees  from students and run as de facto institutions, residents chargec.
