SHIMLA: Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said the delay in justice is one of the biggest challenges being faced by the country. The judiciary is seriously working to solve this problem, he added.
The Chief Minister, in his inaugural speech said that the use of technology in the judicial system will ensure transparency, productivity and efficiency.
Inaugurating the North Zone- II Regional Conference on “Contemporary Judicial Developments and Strengthening Justice Through Law & Technology” here today he expressed hope that the conference would go a long way in deriving new ideas and pave the way for legal reforms in the country thereby providing justice to the people of the country at the earliest.
The conference is being organized by the High Court of Himachal Pradesh, in collaboration with National Judicial Academy, Bhopal, and H.P. Judicial Academy, went underway today at the Peterhof, Shimla. Shri Sukhvinder Singh.
Chief Minister highlighted the importance of technology in making the lives of common people easier in every sphere of life, including the judiciary.
The Chief Minister emphasized the need to view technology as an ally in bringing about change in the lives of people and strengthening the judicial system.
With the inclusion of modern technology, the functioning of the judiciary has accelerated, and during the COVID-19 pandemic and virtual hearings had proved to be a boon for all, saving both money and time of the people. The Chief Minister said that the three pillars of democracy must operate within their own domains for the betterment of mankind. The Chief Minister further said that he himself was a student of law and has a keen interest in the subject.
He said that our State has given four judges to the Supreme Court of India, which is a matter of great pride for all of us.
Speaking on the occasion Justice Aniruddha Bose, Judge, Supreme Court of India, said that in the contemporary development, there is a whole lot of new statutes coming up and new trends are emerging the way we decide the cases.
There are also new technologies with which we are getting acclimatized. He said that great changes taking place both qualitatively and quantitatively in our jurisprudence or our jurisprudential approach. The program like this, provide us a forum for exchange of knowledge, experiences and dissemination of best practices and ideas of law.
Justice Sanjay Karol, Judge, Supreme Court of India said he is a great votary of independent Judiciary.
If this nation has to become super power in the world, the Judges as strongest wing of the democracy, will have to rise to the occasion and while maintaining their independence and integrity will have to become partners in the development of this nation.
If this nation has to grow, we will have to achieve the goal of providing social, economical and political justice to all and we will have to reach to the last man.
Prior to this, the Acting Chief Justice, High Court of Himachal Pradesh, Justice, Tarlok Singh Chauhan, gave a cordial and warm welcome to the distinguished guests. He said that the judiciary being an important pillar of the state plays a vital role in shaping and interpreting the Constitution.
He said the conference is focused on deliberations on the development of technology including artificial intelligence, crypto-currency and information and communication technology in Courts.
The Acting Chief Justice thanked the Chief Minister for sparing his precious time and lending a helping hand in organizing this conference.
He also thanked Justice Aniruddha Bose and Justice Sanjay Karol, Judges Supreme Court of India, for sparing valuable time to grace the occasion and enlightening the gathering with their valuable views. He also thanked Justice A.P. Sahi, Former Chief Justice and Director National Judicial Academy, for hosting this conference in Shimla.
The two-day conference is being attended by approximately 160 participants including invitee Supreme Court Judges, High Court Judges and Judicial Officers of the High Courts of Delhi, Punjab & High Court.
