SHIMLA, JULY 14: A Special CBI Court in Shimla on Tuesday sentenced four  individuals to two years' rigorous imprisonment and imposed a total fine of ₹80,000 in connection with three bank fraud cases involving fraudulent Kisan Credit Card (KCC) loans obtained from the State Bank of India (SBI), Dehra branch in Kangra district.

The convicted persons have been identified as Bachitter Singh, Roshan Lal, Harkirat Singh and Shammi. The court had convicted all four accused on July 6, 2026, and pronounced the sentence on July 14.

According to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), the case dates back to February 22, 2013, when it registered an FIR against several SBI officials, including the then Branch Managers Raj Kumar Kainth and S.M. Paul, Field Officer Kuldip Singh Bhatoa, Manager (PBD) Mohinder,  Suresh Kumar, and other unidentified bank officials and private individuals.

The CBI alleged that the accused entered into a criminal conspiracy to obtain KCC loans from SBI's Dehra branch using fake and forged documents. The loans were allegedly never repaid, resulting in financial loss to the bank.

Following its investigation, the CBI filed 20 separate charge sheets before the Special Judge, CBI, Shimla, against bank officials and private borrowers.

In addition, 19 separate charge sheets were filed before the Special Magistrate-cum-Chief Judicial Magistrate, Shimla, against private borrowers in related cases.

The latest judgment pertains to three of those bank fraud cases, with the court holding the four private accused guilty and sentencing them to two years in prison along with monetary penalties.

The conviction marks another step in the prosecution of a long-pending bank fraud case involving the alleged misuse of agricultural credit facilities through forged documentation.
