Shimla, March 1 - Additional Deputy Commissioner Abhishek Verma stressed the collective responsibility of preserving cultural heritage while addressing attendees at the district-level folk dance competition organized by the Language and Culture Department at Gaiety Theater today.
Verma highlighted the department's ongoing efforts to safeguard and promote the state's folk culture, emphasizing that this task extends beyond artists alone.
He urged for modern approaches in promoting folk culture to ensure its recognition worldwide.
Padmashree Vidyanand Saraik, during the event, underscored the uniqueness of Himachal Pradesh's cultural divisions and efforts to preserve ancient traditions.
The competition saw enthusiastic participation from 15 groups across the district, with over 70 youth involvement.
Churdhar Kala Manch Tarhan Kupvi clinched the top spot in the folk dance category, followed by Swar Sadhana Kala Manch Shimla and joint third-place holders Mahasu Yuvak Cultural Mandal Kaidi Nerwa and Bhagwati Cultural Mandal Shantha Chaupal.
In the musical instrument playing competition, Saraswati Kala Manch Theog secured first place, with Pujarali Nerva and Prem Lal Bundel folk instrumental groups taking second and third place, respectively.
The event was lauded for its management, with Munish Nandan and Narendra Kumar Sharma conducting proceedings effectively. Notable attendees included Deputy Director Language Kusum Sanghaik and District Public Relations Officer Shimla Simple Saklani.
