CHAMBA: In a grand and symbolic ceremony, Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla inaugurated the much-awaited International Minjar Fair in Chamba district today, marking his first visit to the region as the Governor.
The fair, renowned for its rich folk culture and natural beauty, commenced with fervor as thousands of mela freaks gathered at historic Chaugan to celebrate the unique identity of Himachal Pradesh's heritage.
Addressing the enthusiastic gathering, Shukla stressed the role played by Himachal Pradesh's glorious history and folk traditions in the state's progress and development.
He urged the people to preserve these invaluable traditions, beliefs, and faiths for future generations to cherish and learn from.
Amidst the festivities, the Governor also expressed his concern over recent natural calamities that had struck the state, causing loss of life and property.
He lauded the brave efforts of the Indian Air Force, Army, paramilitary forces, and locals in carrying out rescue and relief operations during these testing times.
Governor extended his gratitude for the central assistance of over 350 crores that had been instrumental in restoring normalcy in the affected areas.
Shukla also raised his concern about the rising drug addiction menace plaguing the state.
He assured the public that the State Government is making sincere efforts to combat this evil, but stressed the need for collective awareness and action against the nefarious forces attempting to harm society.
The Minjar Mela kickstarted with the melodious Kunjdi Malhar songs and with national flag hoisting ceremony. The mela provides a platform to showcase the rich arts and crafts of Chamba region.
An exhibition highlighting the achievements of the current government was also inaugurated, adding to the festive fervour.
Governor also opened Minjar Mela Sports Competitions, igniting a sportive spirit among participants from various backgrounds.
Governor and Lady Governor Janaki Shukla sought blessings at the ancient Lakshmi Narayan temple by presenting a Minjar.
Present with him was Speaker of Vidhna Sabha Kuldeep Singh Pathania, Deputy Commissioner and President of the Mela Committee, Apoorva Devgan and other dignitaries.
