Bar Council of Himachal Slams Unruly Protest After Yug Murder Case Verdict
Shimla, Sept 27: The Bar Council of Himachal Pradesh has come down heavily on the unruly protest held in Shimla following the High Court’s judgment in the infamous Yug murder case.
In an emergent meeting of its General House on September 26, the Council condemned the conduct of a section of protesters who raised slogans, hurled abuses, and made derogatory remarks against the judges and the judicial system soon after the verdict was delivered.
Calling such acts a “gross disrespect to the majesty of law” and an “affront to the dignity of the judiciary,” the Council warned that attempts to browbeat or intimidate judges strike at the very foundation of the rule of law and erode public faith in the justice delivery system.
The Council also questioned the role of authorities, noting that officials who granted permission for the procession should have foreseen the consequences, while police failed to maintain law and order when the mob turned unruly.
Reaffirming its commitment to protect the dignity and independence of the judiciary, the Bar Council urged strict action against those who abused the judges and maligned the institution, while also seeking accountability from government officials who failed in their duty.
