MANDI: IN a swift action, the Mandi Police have cracked a blind murder-cum-gang rape case involving the tragic death of a middle-aged woman, whose dead body was found abandoned on the morning of October 9, 2023, near the approach road in Joginder Nagar.
The police have arrest five accused -three adults and two juvenile in the what turned out to be a gang rape and murder that has sent shockwaves in Joginder Nagar.
The alarm was raised in the early morning hours when a vigilant local resident reported the incident to the police. The police registered an FIR under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Deputy Superintendent of Police Sanjeev Sood, heading a team with SDPO Paddhar, took charge of the case, and the Superintendent of Police for Mandi personally visited the crime scene.
The victim was found in a critical state, partially unclothed.
Forensic experts were called in to collect vital evidence, and the victim's body was transported to LBS Medical College in Ner Chowk for a post-mortem examination.
As the investigation unfolded, over 20 individuals were interrogated in the pursuit of leads.
The efforts of the police teams led to the apprehension of the culprits within 24 hours. The three adult suspects, identified as Sunny Kumar, Shivam Kumar, and Rakesh Kumar, were taken into custody. Additionally, two juvenile suspects were apprehended near Kupper.
Based on the statements provided by the suspects and other compelling pieces of evidence, Section 376D of the IPC was invoked to ensure that justice is served.
All collected evidence will be forwarded to the State Forensic Science Laboratory (SFSL) for thorough examination.
The accused individuals are scheduled to appear before the court as part of the ongoing legal proceedings.
