SHIMLA:  The special ward in Block B have turned into Showers, giving sleepless night nighmare to  patients as its celling leak profusely. The basement floor of the Indira Gandhi New OPD Block at the Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital has been flooded partially  due to a sudden surge in the Nala between IGMC and Lakhar Bazaar.

As a result of leakage the patients deserted the rooms. This has painted a pathetic picture of IGmc hospital administration which cared two hoots for the proper maintenance of the wards mainly when rainy season and winter season approach.

While this is inside picture of IGMC the outside premises are worst facing onslaught of  Flood water.

The rush of water brought along debris and waste, impacting the vicinity of the New OPD  Block, where channelisation of Nallah and parking are currently under construction.

The flood water that flowed from the Jhakhoo hills onto the IGMC Lakkar bazaar road near Manchanda chemist. It  inundated the pedestrian path and flowed down flooding the ground floor and basement of the New OPD Block giving tough times to the patients and their attendants.

While the Rotary Club has assured the safety of the Sarai located near the cancer hospital, situated at the bifurcation of Cance hospital-IGMC and the Lakkar Bazaar Roads.

The Rotary  Club has raised its concern regarding the stability of the parking area under construction upstream of the Sarai on the Sanjauli-IGMC road.

The Shimla Municipal Corporation must secure the drains and trash and debris donot end up in the Nallah.

The Rotary Club emphasizes the need to reinforce the construction to prevent debris from washing down the area.

Spokesperson Rotary Club Prakshit Mehdudiya stated that the  Sarai is not immediately threatened. However, the parking construction must be thoroughly fortified to efficiently manage rainwater and prevent any possible debris overflow downstream, he said.

On the medical institution's side, a spokesperson from Indira Gandhi Medical College assured that although the recent rainfall caused minor flooding in the stream, there has been no damage to the basement or the premises of the New OPD block.

The construction contractor has been instructed to take necessary precautions to safeguard the premises from water intrusion and to ensure debris doesn't find its way into the Nala.

Authorities remain vigilant as efforts continue to secure the premises and prevent further flooding incidents.
