New Delhi: The two days long G20 summit, a global gathering of leaders held at the iconic Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, has concluded with world leaders emphasizing the critical need for peace, cooperation, and sustainable development in today's interconnected world.
G20 leaders also paid a heartfelt tribute to the timeless ideals of Mahatma Gandhi, who remains an icon of peace and non-violence at his iconic Rajghat Samadhi.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who presided over the summit, underscored the weighty responsibilities of the G20 member nations. In his concluding address, he stated, "All of you have put forth many suggestions and proposals.ī
"It is our responsibility to accelerate the progress of these suggestions", Modi said.
He further proposed a virtual session in November to assess the progress made on various topics discussed during the summit.
After taking over the G20 baton from PM Narendra Modi, Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula Da Silva, who is set to host the next G20 summit in Rio De Janeiro in November 2024, expressed gratitude to India for providing a platform to amplify the voices of emerging economies.
He emphasized the urgent need to address pressing global issues such as inequality, hunger, and climate change.
President Lula Da Silva declared, "We need to place reducing inequalities at the core of the international agenda."
Speaking earlier at the meeting, US President Joe Biden hailed the significance of the G20's mission and G20 New Delhi leaders' declaration, saying, "This is a big deal; it's the real big deal. I want to thank you, Mr. Prime Minister for G20’s One Earth, one family, one future".
President Biden's words resonated with the spirit of unity that prevailed throughout the summit.
French President Emmanuel Macron highlighted the importance of the proposed major infrastructure project on economic corridor, expressing commitment to invest alongside other nations.
He stated, "Focus of this G20 summit, we commit to invest alongside you on this road. This is a very important project from Asia through the Middle East to Europe to offer big opportunities and connect people."
The G20 summit in New Delhi revolved around themes of peace, non-violence, and global cooperation, with a shared commitment to addressing critical issues facing the world today.
