Ganga Praharis are ready in a combat mode! YOU too Get ready for some major news flash! Here's the lowdown..
DEHRADUN: Hundreds of Ganga Praharis have zeroed in on for a mega Ganga cleanup: FLowing towards a Plastic-Free Future, today on May 16 to clean the clogged arteries of Ganga, our holiest of river.
The campaign will run from May 16 to 20 as a run up to June 5, the world environment day.
With World Environment Day 2024 just around the corner, the Wildlife Institute of India, backed by the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG), has teamed up with the Social Development for Communities Foundation for this mega campaign, "Flowing Towards a Plastic-Free Future."
This ain't your ordinary cleanup gig. We're talking about hitting over 15 tributaries of the mighty Ganga River, spread across seven states like Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal.
And as for the rivers, well, they're spread out across these states like a network of live but "clogged arteries" and lifelines, ensuring the Ganga's flow and health.
It's a strategic move. Ganga Praharis are targeting 63 locations to tackle plastic pollution head-on, said Anoop Nautiyal, President,SDC Foundation, Dehradun, who is leading the charge from the front.
Who's in charge? Well, you've got the Ganga Praharis, a squad of local heroes trained to keep their rivers pristine. Plus, the NMCG and the Jalaj team are jumping in to lend a big hand.
What's the game plan? It's all about spreading awareness on the nasty effects of plastic on river life and Biodiversity.
Each site aims to haul in about 1 kg of plastic junk, which'll then get shipped off to a recycling center in Dehradun manned by SDFC.
Why's it a big deal? 'Cause it's not just about picking up trash. It's a statement and sustainable effort —a commitment to a greener, cleaner future.
This campaign ain't just about today; it's about keeping our rivers healthy and flowing for generations to come.
Now that's what I call a game-changer!
So be ready join hands and make it another Chipko movement, people's movement for Clean Ganga and breathing Ganga pulsating with aquatic life.
