Shimla- In a befitting tributes to late Virbhadra Singh, Governor of Himachal Pradesh, Shiv Pratap Shukla today presided over the pro-boxing tourney here. It was organized by the HP International Boxing Organization in memory of the late former Chief Minister, Virbhadra Singh, on his birth anniversary.
Governor Shukla expressed admiration for Virbhadra Singh's dedication to the state's progress and welfare. He applauded the organizers for providing a platform for budding boxing players in Himachal Pradesh. The governor urged participants to give their best without fearing the outcome and emphasized the importance of sports in today's world.
Governor Shukla noted that with the rise of technology, mobile phones, and the internet, physical activities among the youth have reduced. He encouraged young people to engage in various sports to maintain their physical and mental well-being and to stay away from harmful substances like drugs.
The tournament witnessed boxers from different countries, including Russia, Vietnam, Philippines, and South Korea. Among the participants was Saksham Thakur, a Khelo India gold medalist.
The Himachal Police Orchestra,'Harmony of the Pines,' also showcased their musical talents at the event.
Vikramaditya Singh, the Minister of Public Works, Youth Services, and Sports, warmly welcomed the Governor and highlighted the significant role played by former Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh in modernizing Himachal Pradesh. Singh also mentioned the government's ongoing efforts to promote sports in the state.
MP and State Congress President Pratibha Singh, Chief Parliamentary Secretary Mohan Lal Brakta, MLAs Inder Dutt Lakhanpal and Harish Janartha, Deputy Mayor of Municipal Corporation Uma Kaushal, and President of Pro Boxing Association Himachal Pradesh Mohinder Singh Sataan were present.
