Seizures Worth Nearly 8 Crore Amidst Election Code Enforcement in Himachal Pradesh
Shimla: The the lead-up to the Lok Sabha elections and bye-elections in Himachal Pradesh, the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) has led to a significant crackdown on illicit activities.
According to a spokesperson from the State Election Department, authorities have seized a staggering sum of illicit liquor, cash, drugs, and jewellery amounting to Rs. 7,85,51,662.
The spokesperson provided detailed insights into the operations, highlighting the efforts of various enforcement agencies.
The police department alone has seized cash totaling Rs. 24.59 lakh, along with 65 grams of gold and silver ornaments valued at Rs. 3.35 lakh. Complementing these efforts, the excise department has reported the confiscation of a whopping 381,343 liters of illicit liquor, valuing approximately Rs. 5.51 crore.
Further intensifying the crackdown, a significant quantity of narcotics has also been seized. Agencies have impounded 32 kilograms of Charas, worth Rs. 64.18 lakh, and 1.47 kilograms of heroin, amounting to a staggering Rs. 1.03 crore.
The proactive measures undertaken by law enforcement and regulatory bodies underscore a commitment to ensuring fair and transparent elections, safeguarding against the influence of illegal activities on the democratic process.
