SHIMLA: The upcoming Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha session, set to commence on September 18, 2023, will put a spotlight on the state's recent natural disaster that occurred in July and August this year.
The Legislative Assembly Speaker, Shri Kuldeep Singh Pathania, announced today that the third session of the Fourteenth Legislative Assembly will run until September 25, 2023, encompassing seven meetings.
A significant portion of the questions submitted by Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) pertains to the disaster and its management under the leadership of the Sukhu Government.
Speaker Shri Kuldeep Singh Pathania revealed that a total of 743 questions had been received, with 547 being starred questions (451 online and 96 offline) and 196 unstarred questions (144 online and 52 offline).
These questions primarily revolve around the aftermath of the heavy rains and natural disaster, including government efforts, road conditions, sanctioned road projects, educational institutions' upgradation, and staff vacancies in various departments.
Other issues raised include tourism, parks, water supply, youth drug abuse prevention, rising crime rates, solar energy, and the transport system.
The Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has accused the Sukhu Government of mismanaging the post-disaster situation in Himachal Pradesh, intensifying the focus on these critical issues.
Speaker Shri Pathania emphasized the importance of constructive discussions within the rules and conduct of the legislative session, highlighting the session's dedication to addressing public interest matters.
In an effort to ensure the session proceeds smoothly, an all-party meeting has been called for tomorrow at 1:00 pm, he said.
Leader of the Opposition Jai Ram Thakur, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Shri Harsh Vardhan Chauhan, and Chief Parliamentary Secretary Shri Mohan Lal Brakta, are expected to participate.
The Vidhan Sabha session promises to be a crucial arena for examining the government's response to the recent disasters and addressing the pressing issues facing Himachal Pradesh.
