SHIMLA: Speaker of the Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha, Kuldeep Singh Pathania said the state assembly has passed a resolution demanding a package of Rs 12,000 Crore from the Central government. This request comes in light of the state's challenges stemming from monsoon-related damages.
One of the notable decisions made during this session was the approval of a proposal to legalize the cultivation of Bhang, a type of hemp plant, due to its recognized medicinal properties, he said.
A significant highlight of the session was the passing of a government resolution under Rule 102. This resolution sought a special financial package of Rs 12,000 crore for Himachal Pradesh, recognizing the state's dire situation resulting from monsoon-related damages.
Following an exhaustive 15-hour and 30-minute discussion, the resolution was forwarded for further action, Pathania said.
Furthermore, the session witnessed the presentation of 85 committee reports, one of which addressed the potential legalization of hemp cultivation in the state, citing its medicinal properties. The Deputy Chief Minister also presented a white paper detailing the state's financial situation.
Pathania told media that during the monsoon session, the members of the assembly actively engaged with the government, posing a total of 743 questions. Of these, 547 received star status (451 online and 96 offline), while 196 were categorized as unstarred (144 online and 52 offline). The government, in response, issued notices for 369 starred and 186 unstarred questions.
To summarize, this year's legislative calendar has seen 26 completed meetings so far, a notable increase from the previous session's 16 meetings, he said.
These sessions collectively amounted to 75 hours of proceedings, with a commendable productivity rate of 94%. During the last session, members raised a total of 1,215 inquiries, he informed.
Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania highlighted that this session primarily centered on addressing concerns arising from heavy rains and natural disasters in the state.
These concerns included issues related to road conditions and restoration, approved road projects, educational institutions, and the filling of vacant positions in various departments.
Additionally, the session covered topics such as tourism, parks, revenue, the supply of drinking water, youth drug prevention, increasing criminal cases, solar energy, and the transport system.
Members also brought forth issues from their respective constituencies, receiving assurances from the government.
