Hamirpur: The Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board Limited (HPSEBL) has delivered a nightmare to a woman in Bhoranj, Hamirpur.
Lalita Dhiman, a resident of Beherwin Jattan village, received an electricity bill of Rs 214 crore. The bill was for just one month—December 2, 2024, to January 2, 2025.Her actual consumption was only 264 units.
The bill claimed she consumed a staggering 400,000,264 units.
The error has left her and others in mental shock.
A Blunder of Epic Proportions
The absurd bill has gone viral on social media.
Citizens are blasting HPSEBL for its carelessness. HPSEBL admitted it was a clerical error.
But this is not the first time. Consumers say such blunders are common.
HPSEBL’s billing system is chaotic and reckless. Consumers Left to Suffer. HPSEBL often issues inflated bills.
It delays billing, forcing people into higher tariff slabs. This increases financial stress on ordinary citizens.
Clerks at HPSEBL rarely cross-check the bills. There is no accountability for such mistakes.
No fines or penalties are imposed on the guilty staff.
Public Outrage
Social media is buzzing with angry reactions. “How can such mistakes happen in 2025?” asked a furious user.
“This shows HPSEBL’s complete lack of professionalism,” said another. The Rs 214 crore bill has become a symbol of the board’s inefficiency.
Consumers are demanding strict action. They want accountability for such blunders. They are calling for regular audits and accurate billing.
For Lalita Dhiman, it’s more than a mistake. HPSEBL must fix this broken system before it shocks more lives.
