INDI alliance leaders in Shimla Unite for Peace, Urge Migrants, who had fled Shimla due to Sanjauli Mosque Protest, return. They have urged citizens join the peace march.
Shimla, September 25: In a strong show of unity, leaders from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Congress, and Communist Party of India (Marxist) came together today, calling for peace and mutual coexistence in the wake of recent tensions surrounding the Sanjoli mosque controversy.
A joint press conference was held by prominent figures, including former Shimla Mayor Adarsh Sood(Congress). former Mayor Sanjay Chauhan(CPM), former Deputy Mayor Tikender Singh Panwar(CPM), AAP leader Chaman Rakesh Azta and others.
The leaders appealed to all communities to stand together and restore the city's harmony.
The controversy erupted following protests around the Sanjoli mosque, which had led to many migrant workers, especially from the Krishnanagar area, leaving the city or going into hiding out of fear for their safety.
“We must bring back the confidence of our migrant workers, many of whom have been living and contributing to this city for generations.
Shimla is a city built on coexistence, and we cannot let such incidents destroy our social fabric,” Panwar said at the press conference.
He emphasized the need for unity and urged all like-minded citizens to support this peace initiative.
Surinder Chauhan, echoing this sentiment, stressed that Shimla’s economy, particularly its tourism sector, depends on peace and stability.
“Our businesses have suffered due to the recent tensions, and tourists have begun canceling bookings. We must send a message of peace to the world and ensure that our livelihoods are protected,” Chauhan said.
The joint appeal also addressed the need for legal resolution to the ongoing protests, with the leaders criticizing any attempts to disrupt law and order.
“The law will take its course, but mob justice is unacceptable in a democratic society,” noted Cahuhan.
The press conference concluded with an announcement of a peaceful march scheduled for September 27, aimed at sending a message of unity to the city's residents and the wider community.
Leaders urged citizens to participate and stand in solidarity to preserve Shimla’s peaceful legacy. "We attend their functions and they ours, said Azta.
“We invite all residents and migrants to join hands in this march and reaffirm Shimla’s commitment to peace and brotherhood,” said Sanjay Chauhan.
"Together, we can ensure that Shimla remains a city of harmony, where all communities can live and work without fear."
The leaders also appealed to the government, calling for swift action to restore calm and maintain constitutional order in the city.
