SOLAN: As many as five out of nine labourers were crushed to death by the overspeeding Innova Taxi near the PNB Bank near Dharampur in Solan district on Tuesday after the vehicle went out of control and hit the poor labourers on the Fourlane Kalka-Shimla National Highway.
SP Solan Virendra Sharma said the driver and vehicle has been detained by police. Case has been registered and investigation is underway.
According Police, there were as many as nine laborers working on the Fourlane highway when the overspeeding Innova taxi went of control and hit the victims on the sideways.
While five of the victims dead on the spot, four others were injured badly and they were rushed to hospital where they were stable yet serious.
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has expressed his concern over the accident and mourned the death of five labourers and has prayed for recovery of those who were injured in the accident.
Overspeeding on the National Highway has become a major cause of concern, for the locals and labourers and pedestrians as there are no speed monitors to book the violators.
Solan Police have booked the taxi driver under MV Act and negligence in driving. More details are awaited.
