Leader of Opposition criticizes Himachal Pradesh government for prioritizing image-building over public welfare.
Shimla: Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur has accused the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu-led government of neglecting governance and focusing instead on boosting its public image through propaganda.
In a scathing statement issued on Friday, Thakur claimed the government’s failure to deliver on promises is causing immense suffering to the people of the state.
“The Sukhu government is more interested in polishing its image than addressing the issues faced by the people of Himachal Pradesh. Chief Minister Sukhu and his cabinet believe they can cover their failures through publicity stunts, but this approach has only added to the troubles of the public,” Thakur remarked.
Criticizing the government’s track record, the BJP leader said, “A government’s image is built by working for the welfare of the people, not by indulging in gimmicks. Instead of providing facilities, this government has taken them away. They have shut down institutions set up by the previous government, canceled jobs offered by us, and now expect people to see them in a positive light. This is absurd.”
Thakur also pointed out the dire state of healthcare in the state, claiming that hospitals are failing to provide basic services.
“Operations have come to a halt, essential medicines are unavailable, and people are being deprived of proper treatment. Yet, the government wants to project itself as efficient and people-friendly. This is nothing but a farce,” he said.
“Two Years of Lies and Failure”
The former Chief Minister further alleged that the Sukhu government’s two-year tenure has been marked by deception and incompetence.
“Since coming to power, this government has relied on false promises and manipulative tactics. Now, as they gear up to celebrate two years in office, they have nothing substantial to showcase except hollow claims,” he said.
He added, “The Chief Minister and his ministers avoid discussing their work or achievements because there are none. Instead, they resort to baseless allegations against the opposition. It is clear that Sukhu’s government has failed to deliver even a single noteworthy accomplishment in two years.”
Highlighting the state’s worsening financial condition, Thakur accused the government of tarnishing Himachal Pradesh’s reputation.
“The economic situation has deteriorated under Sukhu’s leadership. They’ve taken loans exceeding ₹1,000 crore every month, breaking all previous records.
This reckless borrowing has made Himachal Pradesh a laughingstock in the country,” he said.
Thakur warned the government to focus on genuine governance rather than propaganda. “People are fed up with the lies and mismanagement.
The documents in government files and even court proceedings reveal the truth behind their claims. The public has stopped taking this government seriously,” he added.
