MANALI: A devastating fire has erupted in the heart of Manali's Nepali Basti, close to the waste treatment plant that has rendered a dozen families homeless.
The five LPG cylinders have exploded during the inferno, sending residents scrambling to safety in a frantic bid to protect their lives.
Firefighting teams have been dispatched to the scene in a race against time to bring the raging blaze under control, said locals. Most of them were working as labour with PWD.
The exact cause of this fire remains shrouded in mystery, with authorities yet to determine the source of the inferno. As of now there have been no reported casualties.
This tragedy strikes hard on the heels of the extensive damage inflicted by the surging Beas River just last July. The aftermath has left dozens of Nepali families displaced and homeless, compounding the region's woes, said nearby villagers who were trying to douse the fire.
