The students protest in Dehradun on Feb 9, 2023

DEHRADUN: Thousands of unemployed youth and students under the banner of Berozgar Yuya Sangh of Uttarakhand here today staged massive protest in the city that led to a series of violent clashes with the police. The police lathicharged the protesting students, who have been demanding a CBI probe into the infamous  Patvari recruitment scam from the Dhami government.

The      videos of students-police clashes on Rajpura road and near the Gandhi Park in the city have gone viral on social media.

“Pahadoan Ki Jawani ab Sarkaon Par Hai’ as the Dhami government has failed to give them employment.

The recruitment scam after scam have made the youth all the more angry and agitated”, commented  the citizens of Uttarakhand on social media, taking a dig at Dhami government.

The girls’ students were even more angry over the police brutally beating up the protesting youth.

“How they are brutally beating the students, who are finding it difficult to support their families as they are not getting jobs even after the age of 40”, they said in protest.

Residents and civil society members of Dehradun have condemned the lathicharge on the students, seeking a fair probe into the recruitment scams that have been hogging headlines under the Pushkar Singh Dhami government.

Though Chief Minister Dhami has yet to take a call on the demands of the protesting students, but he has urged the youth to maintain peace and do not fall into the hands of rumour mongers.

Uttarakhand police have taken into custody the president of the Sangh,  Bobby Panwar and other activists after the violent clash in which many students were injured and public property was damaged.

The protesting youth have been demanding a  CBI probe into the patwari recruitment scam that has brought a bad name for the  Dani government.

The students’ leaders charged that the state government far from bringing the culprits to the book and giving employment to the unemployed lakhs of youth of Uttarakhand, have instead given them lathis and harsh  brutal beating.

The members of the civil Society of Uttarakhand have urged the Dhami government to bring the agitating youth on the negotiating table and take remedial steps to avoid violence and maintain goodwill in the state.

IG Law and Order V Gurganesh said the students protest on the Rajpura road  blocked the road and caused public inconvenience.

They pelted stones and police resorted to lathicharge.  “We appeal to the students to hold a peaceful protest and FIR will be lodged against them”, he warned.

But the students leaders trash IG's claims saying that the police force was being used to stun the agitated youth seeking a fair probe into the Job recruitment scam.

They showed videos on how policemen used stone and lathis to scare away the students, who also were forced to pick up stones in defence.
