In a turn of events in the Mizoram State Assembly elections, the Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) is set to take the reins of the government in northeastern state.
ZPM has won a clear majority by winning 29 seats in the 40-member Mizoram State Assembly while MNF won 7 seats. BJP won 2 while Congress won one seat putting a dismal show in the Christian majority state.
ZPM's Chief Ministerial candidate, Lalduhoma, expressed his lack of surprise, stating, "This is what I expected."
ZPM's triumph dealt a substantial blow to the ruling Mizo National Front (MNF), led by Chief Minister Zoramthanga.
The electoral fortunes witnessed a surprising outcome as both the national parties-Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) faced defeat in the polls.
