CHANDIGARH/PATHANKOT/JAMMU: The Indian Army has rescued over 943 people, including 50 children from an orphanage, 56 BSF personnel and 21 CRPF jawans, from flood-ravaged areas of Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab after incessant rains triggered the Satluj, Beas, Ravi and Chenab rivers to overflow, submerging vast tracts of land.
An Army spokesperson said, “Twenty columns of Rising Star Corps have been deployed round-the-clock in worst-hit districts of Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Pathankot and Gurdaspur.
Troops are not only rescuing stranded people but also providing essential supplies, medicines, and swiftly restoring critical data connectivity in Jammu.”
To boost the morale of soldiers, the GOC of Rising Star Corps personally interacted with troops and Army Aviation units engaged in the operation, commending their tireless commitment.
The Army’s intervention has brought much-needed relief to flood-hit families as villages remain waterlogged and communication networks patchy across the two border states.
