Mandi, November 5, 2025:

The Himachal Kisan Sabha on Wednesday held a state convention of disaster-affected families at Vishwakarma Hall in Mandi, pressing the long-pending demand of “land for land and house for house” for people who lost everything in recurring calamities.

The convention was inaugurated by Rakesh Singha, State Secretary of the Himachal Kisan Sabha.

He said continuous disasters in the state had pushed people into extreme distress. Many families, he said, had lost their fields, homes and even lives.

In several areas, people did not even have two biswa of land left to rebuild. Singha demanded that the Centre amend the Forest Conservation Act to allot five bighas of land to every affected family, ensure immediate construction of houses, and provide monthly rent until permanent rehabilitation is completed.

Affected people from different regions shared their grievances, alleging that revenue officials had failed to properly record the losses in many cases, leaving several victims without formal recognition of damage.

Addressing the convention, Dr. Kuldip Tanwar, President of the Himachal Kisan Sabha, said the government must respond without delay.

“The pain of disaster-hit families is real and urgent. Fair land allotment, transparent damage assessment and timely rehabilitation are non-negotiable. We will continue our struggle until justice is done,” he said.

The convention resolved to hold statewide protests on November 26 at all district and subdivision headquarters if the government does not act on their demands. If the issues remain unresolved, another round of protests will be held on January 19 across all subdivisions.

A delegation of the Kisan Sabha will soon meet the state government to submit a memorandum highlighting the demands.
