Shimla | In a humane gesture setting an example for other states, Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Monday flagged off the ‘Children of the State Tour’ under the Mukhyamantri Sukh-Aashray Yojana.
The tour aims to ensure holistic development of children living in Child Care Institutions (CCIs) by giving them educational and cultural exposure beyond the state.
Fifty-two children from CCIs across Himachal Pradesh are participating in the programme, which will continue till January 15, 2026.
The itinerary covers Chandigarh, Delhi, Agra and Goa, with travel arranged through Volvo buses, rail and air services, along with hop-on hop-off tourist buses.
In Delhi, the children will visit major historical, cultural and educational landmarks. The Taj Mahal in Agra is also part of the schedule.
The Goa leg includes visits to beaches, churches and temples, a pleasure cruise, and an exposure visit to the Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services to promote scientific and environmental awareness.
Flagging off the tour, the Chief Minister directed officials to ensure complete safety, comfort and care of the children throughout the journey.
Under the Mukhyamantri Sukh-Aashray Yojana, Himachal Pradesh has enacted the country’s first dedicated law for destitute children, women and senior citizens.
Since February 28, 2023, nearly 4,000 orphaned children have been adopted as “Children of the State”, receiving support for education, healthcare, housing, career guidance, exposure visits and ₹2 lakh assistance to help them start independent ventures.
