Cracking Down on Illegal Liquor Distilleries
Dr. Yunus, the Excise Commissioner, revealed that anti-social elements had been setting up illegal liquor distilleries in Bilaspur district's Shri Naina Devi area.
Acting on a tip-off, the enforcement team swiftly raided the location, seizing 1,200 liters of raw Lahan and dismantling the illegal distillery. Additionally, an illegal liquor trader was caught with 10 liters of contraband liquor.
Enforcement Efforts Across the State
Across the state, enforcement teams have been actively combatting illegal liquor activities. Notably, 53 bottles of country liquor were confiscated in Sirmaur district, leading to cases being filed under Section 39 of the Excise Act. Inspections in Una and Baddi excise districts resulted in the confiscation of 74 boxes of liquor from licensees in violation of regulations.
Effective Results in the Campaign
The campaign against illegal liquor and tax evasion, conducted by department officers in various districts, has proven highly effective. In recent operations, around 3,405 bottles were seized, with corresponding punitive actions taken. The department has also cracked down on tax evasion, confiscating 5.035 kg of gold jewelry and 14.236 kg of silver, valued at approximately Rs. 2.96 crore. A total of Rs. 18.09 lakh in fines have been collected.

The Excise Commissioner reaffirmed the department's commitment to taking strict action against those involved in illegal liquor production and tax evasion.
To enhance their efforts, a 24x7 control room has been set up at the headquarters, and a toll-free number (18001808062) and WhatsApp number (94183-31426) have been provided for the public to report complaints related to illegal liquor activities.
The department remains dedicated to its vigilant stance against the illegal liquor trade, with 26 teams currently active across the state in this campaign.
