Hamirpur/ Solan/Shimla:
Police on Wednesday seized chitta from two youths in separate operations in Hamirpur district, one of whom is a relative of BJP MLA from Barsar, Inder Dutt Lakhanpal. Both have been booked under the NDPS Act.
In the first case, Shubham Sharma (26), son of Rakesh Kumar and a resident of Auk village under Kanoh post office in Barsar tehsil, was nabbed during a routine patrol in the Galore area. Police recovered one gram of chitta from his possession.
In the second operation, Akash Sharma (27), son of Bal Krishna Sharma and a resident of Neri village under Jaude Amb post office in Barsar tehsil, was apprehended from the Samlehda forest area.
He was found in possession of one gram of chitta along with a weighing machine. Akash Sharma is a close relative of BJP MLA Inder Dutt Lakhanpal. The recovery of the weighing machine has prompted police to probe the trafficking angle as well.
Superintendent of Police, Hamirpur confirmed to media that one gram of chitta was recovered from each accused and cases have been registered under the NDPS Act.
Meanwhile, the Anti-Drug Task Force has also made multiple arrests in other parts of the state. One youth was arrested from Barel village in Solan district, another from Urni in Kinnaur district, three youths from Una district, and one from Rampur, indicating the continued spread of chitta among the youth despite sustained awareness and enforcement drives.
Police said investigations are underway in all cases and further arrests have not been ruled out.
