Two Shocking Crimes Rattle Uttarakhand: Public Outrage Over VIP Culture and Law Enforcement Priorities
Dehradun: Two brutal incidents of rape —one involving a minor in Nainital and the other in Udham Singh Nagar—have shaken the very soul of Uttarakhand, sparking widespread anger over rising crime, unchecked drug abuse, and what many call the state’s deepening VIP culture.
In response to the outcry, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami convened a high-level emergency meeting at his official residence today issuing strict directives to top officials to ensure swift and tough action against the culprits.
“No criminal will be spared in Devbhoomi, no matter what,” the CM said, vowing to uphold the sanctity and security of the Himalayan state.
The incident in Nainital involved a minor girl and has triggered particular concern.
The Chief Minister directed officials to provide full security to the victim and her family, and monitor the situation with "utmost sensitivity."
Both accused in the case and another in Udham Singh Nagar have been arrested—habitual offenders who, shockingly, had already served jail time in the past.
“Anyone attempting to spread rumors on social media or disrupt peace will face immediate and strict legal action,” Dhami warned, while also calling for intensified verification drives across the state.
But public fury is mounting. Social media platforms have exploded with criticism, accusing the administration of prioritizing VIP duties over citizen safety.
“When police and officials are only busy escorting VVIPs, who will protect the common man? Our children?” questioned one viral post.
“Uttarakhand is drowning under VIP culture. Crime is rising. Drugs are being sold openly. And now rape. Shame on us.”
Many are calling the situation a wake-up call for the state government to shed its VIP-first attitude and focus instead on the growing lawlessness, especially crimes against women and minors.
As Uttarakhand reels under the shock of these incidents, one thing is clear: the people are demanding answers—and accountability.
