Apart from the detection of Omicron variant, Uttarakhand reported 39 new cases today out of which 11 were in Dehradun and nine Nainital. In contrast, Himachal reported 31 cases, most from Kangra district.
Even as the Delhi government has banned Christmas and New Year celebration gathering in Delhi, but neither Himachal nor Uttarakhand government issued any fresh directions or curbs.
President of SDC Foundation, Dehradun Anoop Nautiyal said in midst of the Omicron variant detection, the state governments should impose curbs on Christmas and New year celebrations to tackle Omicron in the state. “Delhi government has banned cultural events and gatherings during Christmas and new year celebrations and has directed the district magistrate to take required measures to control the spread”, he said.
But nothing has been done in Uttarakhand so far which has already lagged behind in vaccination targets. The government should up the surveillance across the borders in Uttarakhand. All road heads, railway stations, airports should have testing and it should ensure that all hotels, malls and restaurants should be strictly implement covid-appropriate guidelines and behaviour among the guests, he said.
Nautiyal said that they have repeatedly been highlighting that all effort must be align towards goal of more and more test and vaccination.
He said that the state is likely to fall short of about 12 lakhs vaccine doses by end of 2021 target.
The residents said the cases are spiking across Delhi, Mumbai and in other states in the country. “Our state has already reported its first case of Omni crown variant, they said.
