Shimla: The Communist Party of India (Marxist), which was electoral partner of the INDIA today launched a scathing attack on the Himachal Pradesh Congress government as it kicked off its three-day state conference at Kalibari Hall in Shimla.
Before the conference, a large rally marched from Panchayat Bhawan to Chaura Maidan, concluding with a public meeting at Ambedkar Chowk.
Addressing the gathering, CPI(M) leader Rakesh Singha criticized the state government for imposing additional burdens on the public.
“The Congress government is blindly following the BJP's anti-people policies. Initiatives like smart meter installations will only add to the economic strain on the common man,” he said.
He also pointed out the delay in declaring employment examination results, leaving the state’s youth frustrated and unemployed.
Sanjay Chauhan accused both the RSS and BJP of trying to disrupt communal harmony in Shimla.
“Recent incidents orchestrated by Sangh-affiliated groups have exposed the BJP’s divisive agenda. What’s worse, Congress leaders have also been complicit,” he claimed.
State Issues in Focus
Dr. Kuldeep Singh Tanwar highlighted the worsening condition of farmers in Himachal. “Farmers are facing immense distress due to policy neglect. The agricultural crisis isn’t limited to the national level; it’s deeply felt here in the state as well,” he said.
The public meeting, chaired by reception committee president Dr. Vijay Kaushal, was also addressed by Politburo member Comrade Subhashini Ali, To Sen, A. Vijayaraghavan, Kushal Bhardwaj, and Vijendra Mehra.
BJP Policies Deepening Inequality Nationwide
Comrade Subhashini Ali spoke about the broader implications of BJP-led policies at the Centre.
“Since 2014, when the Modi government came to power, two Indias have emerged—one where the poor struggle to survive and another where the rich grow richer. The gap between the two has never been wider,” she said.
Ali lambasted the government for dismantling 44 labor laws and replacing them with anti-worker labor codes.
She accused the BJP of favoring corporates while looting the poor, pointing to a surge in unemployment and worsening global hunger rankings under the current regime.
‘Corporate-Communal Nexus’ Under Modi Government
Sen emphasized how the BJP’s “corporate-communal nexus” is eroding constitutional values.
“The Modi government is systematically dismantling the foundations of our democracy, favoring billionaires while neglecting the working class,” he said, highlighting the alarming rise in economic inequality.
Call for Resistance
Speakers, including Dr. Omkar Shad, Dr. Kashmir Thakur, Prem Gautam, and Falma Chauhan, called for collective resistance against both the BJP at the Centre and Congress in Himachal.
“Both parties have failed the people. CPI(M) stands as the only credible alternative to fight for the rights of farmers, workers, and the common man,” they declared.
