SHIMLA: The Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly’s winter session is set to be held from December 18 to 21, 2024, in Tapovan, Dharamshala. BJP is gathering arsenal to corner the Sukhu Government on its performance on completion of two years in office.
Announcing this, Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania revealed that the four-day session, the seventh of the current government, will host a total of four sittings.
The proposal has already been sent to the Raj Bhavan for the Governor's recommendation, with a notification expected soon.
However, the session promises to be more than just routine legislative business. The opposition BJP is reportedly preparing to launch an all-out offensive against the Sukhu government over its tumultuous two years in office.
The party is expected to highlight the government’s alleged failure to deliver on its poll guarantees, its inability to tackle the ongoing financial crisis, and its mishandling of recent natural disasters that have left the state reeling.
Sources suggest that BJP leaders are crafting a strategy to target the government’s response to issues such as crumbling infrastructure post-monsoon, the plight of disaster-hit families, and the lack of progress on much-touted welfare schemes.
With these issues expected to dominate the session, the winter session could see heated debates and fiery exchanges.
Meanwhile, Speaker Pathania, who recently returned from a 22-day foreign educational tour, assured that all arrangements for the session in Tapovan are underway.
He has issued guidelines to the Kangra district administration from abroad and plans to personally review the preparations during an upcoming visit to Dharamshala.
Reflecting on his foreign trip, the Speaker described it as "educational, practical, and informative" and announced that he would share his insights at a press conference tomorrow at 11:30 am.
As the winter session approaches, all eyes will be on Tapovan to see how the Sukhu government defends its record and whether the opposition succeeds in making a dent in its standing.
