DHARAMSHALA: The winter session of the Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha began in Dharamshala.
It was marked by heated exchanges between the ruling Congress and the opposition BJP.
Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri dismissed the BJP’s allegations of corruption. He accused the opposition of wasting the House’s time with baseless claims.
Agnihotri emphasized the government’s focus on addressing substantive issues. He criticized the BJP for engaging in political theatrics, both inside and outside the assembly.
Leader of the Opposition Jai Ram Thakur addressed an 'Aakrosh Rally' in Dharamshala. He accused the government of poor performance over the past year.
Thakur raised concerns about the short duration of the winter session. He alleged that the government was avoiding accountability on key issues.
Thakur mentioned the BJP’s intent to discuss unfulfilled poll promises during the session. He demanded answers to serious allegations of corruption against the government.
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu responded in the assembly.
He assured the government’s willingness to discuss all matters. Sukhu urged the opposition to engage constructively in debates. He criticized BJP leaders for staging walkouts instead of participating in discussions.
The Chief Minister pointed out Jai Ram Thakur’s absence from an all-party meeting convened by the Speaker. He hinted at internal discord within the BJP.
This four-day winter session is expected to see sharp debates. The main issues like unemployment, fiscal deficit, and unfulfilled electoral promises are on the agenda. For the first time, 'Zero Hour' has been introduced, allowing urgent matters to be raised without prior notice.
As the session continues, all eyes are on how effectively both sides address public concerns and ensure accountability.
