Long Wait Over: Virbhadra Singh’s Statue to be Unveiled at Shimla’s Ridge on October 13
Shimla, Sept 17: The long wait is finally over. The statue of six-time Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister and mass leader, late Raja Virbhadra Singh, will be unveiled at Shimla’s historic Ridge ground on October 13, 2025.
Announcing the much-awaited event, Vikramaditya Singh — son of Virbhadra Singh and Chairman of the Virbhadra Singh Foundation — said, “It is a matter of great pride and emotion for us to see the unveiling of my father’s statue at the Ridge.
The earlier date was postponed due to the devastating rains and natural calamity that struck Himachal this monsoon.
But now, with the blessings of the people and guidance of Congress leadership, we are ready to pay a befitting tribute.”
The ceremony, which was originally planned for June 23 on Virbhadra Singh’s birth anniversary, had to be deferred as the state battled heavy loss of lives and property in the monsoon disaster.
In keeping with Singh’s legacy, the Foundation instead contributed ₹11 lakh towards the education of children who lost their parents in the calamity.
The October 13 event is expected to be a major political and emotional moment for the state. AICC general secretary and MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, Congress in-charge Rajni Patil, and PCC president Pratibha Singh will attend. Senior Congress leader Sonia Gandhi is also likely to join, subject to her health condition.
Calling the event a “historic day for Himachal,” Vikramaditya Singh, who also serves as the state’s PWD and Urban Development Minister, invited people across the state to witness the unveiling.
“This is not just a tribute from the family, but a collective moment of remembrance for the people of Himachal, who always saw him as their leader and guardian,” he said.
