Shimla- Arun Singh Rawat, the Director General of the Indian Council of Forestry Research & Education (ICFRE) urged the scientists to do forestry research for improving the livelihood of rural communities.
He made these remarks while inaugurating the Technology Demonstration Centre in Shimla. During his visit, he inspected the research activities of the institute and engaged in discussions with scientists and officers.
The Technology Demonstration Centre in Shimla is a crucial platform for creating awareness about the institute's new technologies in the field of forestry.
It will showcase the various advancements made by the institute, providing an opportunity for stakeholders to witness these technologies firsthand. Rawat expressed optimism that the establishment of the Technology Demonstration Centre would benefit different stakeholders involved in the forestry sector.
Rawat is currently on a five-day tour of Himachal Pradesh to monitor the research activities conducted by the Himalayan Forest Research Institute in Shimla.
Dr. Sandeep Sharma, the Director of the institute, highlighted that the centre would serve as a valuable resource for visitors, including researchers, academicians, and students, by familiarizing them with the institute's technologies.
During his visit, Rawat will also inspect the research activities at the Field Research Station in Tabo and the Field Research Station in Jagatsukh Manali.
He also opens a training programme organized by the institute on nursery and plantation techniques for Juniper and the cultivation of temperate medicinal plants in Kaza Lahual & Spiti on 20th June 2023.
The event was attended by scientists and officers from the institute.
Rawat's visit to Himachal Pradesh aims to encourage and support forestry research that will ultimately contribute to the welfare of rural communities and the sustainable development of the region.
