COAS Upendra Dwivedi Visits World's Highest Battlefield in Siachen, A Day After Kargil Vijay Diwas
LEH/Siachen Glacier – In a moment steeped in emotion and nostalgia, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Upendra Dwivedi visited a forward post in the icy heights of Siachen — the world’s highest and most challenging battlefield — just a day after the nation marked Kargil Vijay Diwas.
The visit held special significance as General Dwivedi returned to the 18 Jammu and Kashmir Rifles (18 JAK RIF) — the very battalion he was once commissioned into and had the honour of commanding.
Amid the biting winds and snow-clad silence, the COAS was seen reconnecting with seven Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs) who had served under him as young soldiers.
The reunion turned into a deeply moving occasion, as old bonds were rekindled and shared memories from the frontlines were relived.
Standing tall with the valiant troops of 18 JAK RIF, General Dwivedi lauded their grit, resilience, and unwavering spirit. The visit was a celebration of camaraderie, leadership, and the unbreakable brotherhood that defines the Indian Army.
The Fire & Fury Corps shared glimpses of this special moment, underscoring the emotional weight of the reunion and the COAS's heartfelt salute to the men guarding the nation’s highest front.
