Addressing the National Symposium as a Chief Guest on 'Spirit of Constitution on 75th year of Indian Independence’ at Indian Institute of Advanced Studies (IIAS, he said Preamble to Constitution is a guide for the nation.
He said the core of its Preamble is humanity in which the feeling of welfare of the entire living world is pervasive to all living world. Apart from its literal knowledge, there is a need to understand its sense.
Arlekar said existence, democracy and system are inherent in our nature and even today at many places even at village level, one main person has the ability to decide and guide the whole community.
“How we treat others is the true definition of religion and this is the spirit of our existence, which we have to maintain”, said Arlekar. “On this day it gives us an opportunity to share the great values of justice and equality”, he said.
Chairperson IIAS Kapil Kapoor said Indian society and tradition has been based on the self-governing principle. This is the reason why despite all the political challenges, our culture and civilization survived as our autonomous units used to work here, he said.
Dr Kapoor said in our ancient culture ‘Panch’ was called ‘Parameshwara’. There is a difference between responsible government and self-government, he said.
He said our society teaches us to be dutiful and duty is a harmony oriented concept and such a person is respected in our society who sacrifices, he added.
Director, IIAS Prof. Chamanlal Gupta said the Amrut Mahotsava of Independence is a matter of pride and joy for all of us but it is a time to assess the period. The concept of fraternity is in our cultural spirit and this heritage has been received only by us in the world, he added.
Secretary of the Institute Prem Chand welcomed the Governor and informed about the various sessions of the symposium.
